This series is so important to me and really resonates with my core soul. Working with our natural environment and everything it has to offer is something I can’t stress enough. My entire purpose resonates with nature and our connection to our planet, humans, consciousness, subconsciousness and our soul! The unavoidable universal connection that is with us all, at all times, weather we are detached from feeling into it or not, we are all a part of it. Stay rooted within this realization and don’t be afraid of it, this is our truth. I have so much gratitude and appreciation for all indigenous people, as well as all native people around the world who want to dig deep within and protect mother nature, I feel such a strong connection with their ways of being. For me, keeping these traditions and cultures alive and well are so, so beneficial to all living beings on the planet. I’m not trying to gain anything, I just want to spread as much love and compassion as possible & connect us back to our ways of alignment with this planet, because I genuinely give a sh•t!

.

Kawaya7 and I got together for a “Spirit Healers” photoshoot in honor of the missing and murdered indigenous women, as well as all suffering indigenous people, who suffered and still suffer today. I have nothing but deep love for indigenous people and their ways. I hope you do to! Kawaya7 is such an incredible soul and am so grateful our paths have crossed and we were able to bring this to the surface. I’ve learned an incredible amount from her & believe she really does have so much to offer & truly gives a sh•t, that is beyond important. This gal is incredibly rooted and she can help to guide you there as well.

.

This is Kawaya7’s story and what she had to say!

.

I am the daughter of a residential school survivor. I am a mother of two. The generation I was born into were left with no choice but to break the cycles of trauma and abuse. I am a healer for my people because I am endlessly working on my own healing; I am open in my raw pain as I am in my connection to spirit and my cultural teachings. I feel very grateful to be alive today as many moments could have been my last. I come from broken communities that have been crushed under colonial systems..

.

Some things to educate yourself on:

84% of Indigenous women experience violence in their lifetime. There are over 4,000 missing & murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA. There is no reliable estimate of the numbers of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA persons in Canada due to RCMP negligence. Quoted from chief commissioner, Marion Buller: “There is an ongoing deliberate, race, identity and gender-based genocide.” ...I am an Indigenous woman who has survived sexual abuse and life-threatening violence. I will raise the voices of my sisters who have been silenced until my last breath. Bring our sisters home!!!

Giving back to the earth is showing appreciation for taking something away. Kawaya7 is giving tobacco leaf back to the earth in appreciation for giving us this place to take pictures.

Kawaya7 made this drum herself from moose hide, which was attacked by a grizzly bear. You can see the massive claw mark on the skin.
